Extended reality (XR) is defined as 'the spectrum of virtual and augmented experiences', and is rapidly increasing in popularity as a way of engaging with immersive environments.

The LifePathXR project will develop a demonstrator version of an XR therapeutic tool for people with common mental health problems to create and experience an immersive version of their journey through life, to enhance their well-being and mental health. Users will be able to represent key milestones, turning points and events in their lives by importing digital photos or 3D objects. They will then be able to interact therapeutically with their lifepath, engage in therapeutic work, and share it with relevant others..

We will take a collaborative approach to the project, working with experts-by-experience in mental health, to co-design, test and evaluate a pilot version of LifePathXR. Because the development work is being done by people with lived experience of mental health problems, this will mean that the final version will be accessible and engaging, and will address the things that end users want from such a tool. Through the co-design work, we will find out more about what the benefits of personalised, immersive approaches to mental health are, and prepare to make this tool more widely available (this work will be done through a wider development project in the future, via strand 2 of the Mindset programme, or a similar funding opportunity).</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
