and literacy. This education platform will constitute a range of apps, embedded in an interface
for web and mobile devices that repurposes the best music, film, television and online content
to generate bespoke, highly motivational language education tools personalised to each users
personal interests.
Our mission is to disrupt the language teaching environment by putting students and their
external interests at the centre of learning. Powered by a dedicated engine, and developed
through the latest evidence-based research and methodologies in education, Tungsten takes
what students do naturally outside the classroom - listening to songs, reading articles,
watching television and videos - and puts these activities into a structured learning
environment. It does not use materials written by academics, but allows students to use the
content that motivates them personally inside a specially designed academic framework.
Tungsten analyses and grades thousands of music, video and text files according to the parts
of language used and gives each one a difficulty rating developed in conjunction with a
leading international provider of language teaching and pedagogical research, allowing
students to encounter only the pieces of content that are relevant to their literacy level.
Research and development of Tungsten builds on Edutitles, the television interface in
development in conjunction with Hat Trick Productions. Further partnerships with content
providers and broadcasters will lead to a new way of studying language - through the content
that motivates each student the most.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
