10178499UK's first Circular Economy Construction HubClosedCollaborative R&DInnovate UKThe **London Borough of Newham (LBN)** is working in partnership with **Tipping Point East (TPE)** -- led by founding experts **Material Cultures, Yes Make and RESOLVE Collective** -- to pilot a new model for circular construction and demonstrate how reclaimed and bio-based materials can be used at scale in the built environment sector. The outcome will be the **UK's first Circular Economy Construction Hub**: a space that captures and reuses materials, proves operational systems at scale, engages businesses and the community, and provides market-tested pathways for councils and developers to follow. By doing so, it reduces emissions and waste from the construction while creating local green jobs and upskilling opportunities for local residents. Our project focuses on transforming a disused site in Silvertown into a Circular Economy Construction Hub built entirely from reclaimed and low-carbon materials. This retrofit is a live test case for how councils, contractors, and communities can adopt more resource-efficient approaches to our built environment industry. The project has three key pillars. First, **reclaiming a disused site and delivering an industrial retrofit using 100% circular and bio-based materials**: Newham has identified the lack of local storage and processing space as a critical barrier to reuse of construction materials. This project directly addresses that gap by transforming a disused site into an operational logistics hub through the retrofit of a decommissioned building using 100% reclaimed and bio-based materials, unlocking critical physical infrastructure while providing a live test case for material reuse. Second, **Circular Economy Construction Hub with operations testing at scale and market activation**: the project includes setting up an operational logistics hub for material reuse, enabling flows from demolition contractors, developers, and reuse platforms to be captured and redeployed at scale. We will develop and test physical and logistical infrastructure that can be replicated across the UK, and engage and encourage local and national developers, designers and builders to reduce their emissions and waste by supplying and purchasing reclaimed materials through the hub. Third, **knowledge sharing for replicability**: the project will provide multimedia case studies and resources for dissemination across the UK through sector networks and a series of events, site visits and workshops, to encourage replication of materials reuse hubs and increased use of reclaimed or bio-based materials in the built environment sector. The hub also provides a site for green skills training for local residents and educational institutions.
