This sneaker can be purchased to wear or made at home, teaching creatives how to make shoes and fostering a movement of UK based footwear brands. The sneaker will be designed to be hand made and easily repaired through resoling. Our sneaker patterns will be open-sourced and customers will be encouraged to download and make shoes with them. This innovative approach of creating a fashion product that also serves as an educational tool will equip creatives with the skills to start their own footwear brands, which is currently inaccessible due to off-shored manufacture and a lack of shoemaking knowledge and experience in the UK. Designing this sneaker to be handmade and resoled will increase the product life-cycle in an industry that see's 300 million shoes sent to landfill each year in the UK. By using the leverage of a consumer audience for a sustainably-minded sneaker we can enable a wave of creators handmaking their own pairs, inspiring a movement of independent footwear brands from the UK and creating a circular fashion movement that encourages slow fashion and repair.
