The Hoo’s prime location results in pollution through the unmonitored run-off from rain water and sewage from the town &amp;amp; the Airport. In February 2012 major pollution in the north lake, which went un-noticed for a period of time resulted in the death of the entire fish stock. The lake could not be restocked as no guarantee could be given that the same situation would not be repeated. We are planning to work with University of Bedfordshire to design bespoke water monitoring sensor networks on the lakes that will continuously monitor conditions and issue early warning signals if some of the parameters are out of tolerance. Warning signals will be sent to the estate manager in the form of a mobile phone text message to allow corrective measures to be taken in time to avert another environmental disaster, allowing restoration of the lake habitat with some confidence. This solution could be used worldwide by anyone with water quality problems, improving British exports whilst helping alleviate problems with dirty drinking water and potentially saving lives.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
