Zonova technology embedded into medical devices offers an effective alternative to prophylactic antibiotics for the first time. In this Innovate UK supported project, CEO Scientist Dr Georgia Fleet will lead a project to develop technology to combat infections in high-infection-risk orthopaedic implants which are 1) placed with antibiotics to prevent infection and 2) are associated heavily with infection risk. By using our technology in implants, we significantly reduce the risk of infection and the reliance on antibiotics. With this, we also reduce the risk of resistance developing due to over exposure to antibiotics.

Zonova has already developed antimicrobial technology that has been demonstrated successfully embedded into soft polymer devices such as catheters, sutures tracheal tubes etc. Our mission is to help address the global antimicrobial resistance crisis with our technology, in preventing infections to reduce our reliance on antibiotics. Starting with a UK animal health focus, before growing into UK human health, our mission is to address the global antimicrobial resistance crisis by preventing infections and decreasing our reliance on antibiotics. As both animals and humans use the same antibiotics, tackling from both sectors is crucial for a holistic approach.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
