Fuel cells and battery-powered trains have emerged as alternatives however recent studies have highlighted overhead electrification as the next step to support long distance/high speed transit in most cases. Considering this, to meet Net-Zero emission targets by 2050, new overhead electrification infrastructure is required on 13,000km of track. Consequently, recent rates of electrification by Network Rail (NWR) of 250km/year from 2016-2020 must draw closer to the 450km/year target.

In response, AUS are developing an innovative lightweight twin track cantilever system, with modular manufacture, simplified assembly and installation reducing the costly time involved on-site.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
