This technology enables researchers and biomanufacturers to assess the structural state of proteins with high reproducibility, minimal manual effort, and no need for expensive or complex instruments.

Protein structure is central to drug development, synthetic biology, and the production of biologics and enzymes. However, current analytical methods are often slow, costly, and difficult to standardise or integrate into real-time workflows.

Our solution addresses this gap by offering an easy-to-use, benchtop device that captures an electronic signature from a sample and processes the results through a cloud-based software platform. The platform provides automated analysis, built-in statistical validation, and remote calibration, making high quality measurements accessible even to non-specialist users.

This Innovate UK-funded project focuses on conducting a 4-month third-party validation study in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), a leading UK research institution. The goal is to independently confirm the platform's effectiveness in characterising protein structures, using a wide range of sample types and use cases. The results of the study will be documented in a public white paper, case study, or scientific publication, which we will share openly with the scientific community and potential adopters across academia and industry.

Our innovation supports UK priorities in engineering biology, biomanufacturing, and healthcare innovation. By improving access to affordable, real-time protein characterisation, it will help reduce time and cost in R&D, improve quality control in manufacturing, and accelerate innovation in life sciences. It is particularly valuable for small research teams, startups, and manufacturers who currently lack cost-effective and scalable tools for structural analysis.

The project also promotes collaborative science through cloud-based data sharing, supporting transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge exchange across institutions. Ultimately, this technology aims to become a standard tool in both research and industrial workflows, supporting the UK's leadership in bioscience and biotechnology.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
