Sustainable Homes, they become more airtight, and natural means of ventilation disappear. To
overcome this, Mechanical Ventilation is used, but without Heat Recovery, this leads to up to
5,000 kWh of heat lost from a typical home per year. In order to ‘reclaim’ this energy, Heat
Recovery is added. Typically with two fans running, 24h a day, these systems use up to
900kWh of electricity per year (three times more than a new fridge). In cases where gas
heating is used, Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation provides very little or no net CO2
saving.
Besides the energy use, mechanical systems have high installation costs due to their
complexity, require a number of trades to install and maintain, and suffer from component
failures adding to the running costs which already average &amp;pound;100 per year. Mechanical systems
also depend on a number of electronic and mechanical components contributing to lack of
reliability, resource depletion and electronic waste.
Starting off with our innovative and retrofit specific Passive Ventilation with Heat Recovery
that fits through the chimney of an existing dwelling (initially developed with the help of TSB
funded feasibility study) and Proof of Concept prototypes now tested and installed in trials,
we have designed a reliable ventilation system for mew dwellings which incorporates a
number of inventions from our initial product (Ventive S) as well as innovative flow splitter
and twin flow diffuser for simplified installation.
The proposed system (Ventive S+) both overcomes a number of challenges of wet room
installations and makes the product applicable to new built market. The development of this
technology will also allow us to provide a Code for Sustainable Homes level 5 ready, full
house ventilation system, a proposition preferred by both the BRE and LABC.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
