The process produces a commercial product with a high yield epicatechin monomer (>30% w/w) and flavan-3-ol oligomers from selected apple varieties. Epicatechin is a food, supplement and medical food-based vasodilator while oligomers are effective anti-angiogenic products which are used in skin care and medical foods. Coressence markets these products through a range of direct sale, global licensing and collabrative arrangements. This project will undertake scale-up trials for a "100 kg" scale unit as the first stage in the devlopment and construction of a "1000 kg" process. The project will undertake detailed process up-scaling taking account of the necessary criteria required to meet commercial and industry standards.
The project will involve the use equipment recently commissioned as part of the open access UKCPI National Industrial Biotechnology Facility at the Wilton Centre.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
