account for 1 million direct jobs & another 800,000 in related upstream & downstream sectors (DCMS).
Despite the overall global increase in digital sales & consumption, digital piracy remains a
critical barrier to growth & investment for the media industries & has a significant impact on
the economy. Levels of unauthorised downloading remain high, with nearly 25% of internet
traffic due to the illegal sharing of copyrighted works (Envisional 2011).
Damage caused by piracy is beyond simply revenue loss, it extends into the realm of brand quality, future stability, & product control. The biggest challenge for copyright holders is to find ways to monetise music & other media files shared illegally through Internet channels including peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, cyberlockers, user-generated content, streaming sites & other websites.
The Muso system currently analyses millions of pages across the Internet for copyright
holder’s content. It then removes illegal files & listings, often in real time. Building on
Muso’s successful anti-piracy takedown service, which provides an automated takedown,
search & destroy solution to the media industries, Muso are now looking to develop a solution based on this technology that will monetize illegal downloads on behalf of copyright holders.
This will involve the development of software to automate a file package prototype to support de-cryption/unlocking processes that can be uploaded &seeded to popular Cyberlocker sites used for illegal downloads. The prototype will be used to stimulate mkt interest with mkt entry expected in 2015.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
