Beyond reuse in developing countries, the vast majority of these textiles are land-filled at end-of-life, largely due to a lack of commercially viable material recycling solutions. To support the principles of the circular economy, extrusion of the polymer back into new fibres would be an attractive option. However, the extruded polymer quality is generally poor, largely due to the presence of impurities in the textile waste. This innovation study will help determine the feasibility of a novel supercritical Co2 assisted extrusion process to improve the quality of textile derived polyester recyclate so that it can be used for the production of new fibre.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
