Billions of people around the world lack reliable access to clean drinking water, and this crisis is being intensified by climate change, ageing infrastructure, and growing population pressures. In the UK and internationally, governments and communities are seeking smarter, more sustainable ways to manage water supply and environmental resilience.

This project focuses on the research and development of Wanda Cloud, an AI-powered software platform that uses real-time data from decentralised water generation units to help local authorities, NGOs, and communities monitor and respond to environmental conditions more effectively. These units extract clean drinking water from moisture in the air using Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG) technology, while simultaneously capturing high-resolution data on humidity, temperature, air quality, and solar exposure.

With Innovate UK support, the Wanda team will build and test the core components of Wanda Cloud, including forecasting algorithms, anomaly detection models, predictive maintenance tools, and a user dashboard tailored to public-sector needs. The aim is to develop a scalable, accessible platform that can help decision-makers respond more rapidly to droughts, pollution events, and infrastructure challenges.

The project will also develop secure data architecture and open APIs, allowing integration with local government systems, research tools, and climate resilience initiatives. While early deployments will focus on high-humidity regions, future development will enable use in lower-humidity climates such as the UK, providing local councils and public institutions with both emergency drinking water access and valuable environmental intelligence.

This innovation supports the UK's net-zero ambitions, builds resilience to climate shocks, and strengthens the country's leadership in AI, clean tech, and environmental data. The work will be led by a multidisciplinary team with deep experience in infrastructure, climate innovation, and data science. Wanda's long-term vision is to create a global environmental sensing and water access network that empowers communities everywhere to adapt to a changing climate, starting with this R&D programme.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
