scale objects easily with multi-touch input which complements the precision of the ‘pen’ input
used for tasks such as writing or drawing. The speed of development of complex multimedia
applications based on finger touch detection has greatly accelerated since the launch of the
trend-setting iPad in April 2010 and with the availability of the Multi-touch software platform
in Windows 7 and Android. However the current sensing approach is not easily scalable
beyond the 10” diagonal size of the iPad style devices. More technical work is required to
introduce multi-touch and stylus input technology for large scale TV screens (diagonal up to
65”) or for interactive whiteboards (diagonal starting from 87”).
The market for interactive large scale displays is fragmented and served by a variety of
expensive technologies lacking true multi-touch functionality. Alterix is developing a
revolutionary technology for enabling multi-touch and stylus inputs for large scale
applications at a target Bill of Materials cost of well below $100. Technology under
development by Alterix could disrupt the existing status quo in the interactive large scale
display market by providing a superior technical specification and much lower production
cost for the sensing technology.
White board interactive displays is a more mature market for the technology under
development by Alterix. A typical interactive whiteboard display represents a touch sensitive
white surface for projecting a computer image using a DLP projector. Due to revolutionary
changes in the technology of projectors it represents an interesting high margin market.
If successful, a cheaper sensing solution from Alterix could be implemented into large scale
TV displays for creating new and exciting applications like interactive meeting tables (using
horizontally placed TV screens) and interactive retail display systems.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
