opportunity for e-procurement by providing an intelligent universal federated query and
search capability, using semantic web techniques, to create responsive e-procurement
eMarketplaces seamlessly integrated with intuitive and innovative savings tracking, purchase
execution and gain share automation. FUSE will uniquely combine goal-driven agent-based
federated query and search using semantic descriptions with personalisation features
seamlessly woven into a highly innovative e-procurement application set
The innovation is based upon:
a) Provision of unique algorithms that use the semantic-based metadata descriptions of the
available product catalogues to inform the federated query and search and to provide the user
with prioritised e-procurement information and personalising the query and search capabilities
by profiling how a user typically interacts with them;
b) Provision of a ‘Federated Universal Search &amp;amp; Selection’ capability which enables a user to
start an Internet-wide search for products that fit the specified characteristics;
c) Seamless integration with savings tracking, purchase execution, gain share automation
within an intuitive dynamic user interface to create a unique procurement application.
The key benefits that accrue to users are:
a) Intuitive on and off contract search, comparison, savings justification and purchase
execution within a single application to drive greater savings;
b) Federated search means that eMarketplaces can be created that are better suited to small
user communities. Such consumerisation provides a clear return on investment for small
communities and allows them to create mini-eMarketplaces.
Improving e-procurement software gives a financial benefit to all those using the software
reducing costs for client organisations that can either be passed onto end consumers or else
