controlled entertainment, informative and educational spaces.
The objective is to look at the practicalities of implementation and market-pull for social
media and interactive (probably mobile) technologies in entertainment spaces. These will be
‘controlled’ public spaces, such as cinemas, theatres, art galleries, live gigs, zoos, and heritage
sites. We’ll consider the use of social networking to allow audiences to communicate with
each other, with performers or artwork, and the venue. Additionally, the technology employed
is intended to act as mediation agent in sourcing relevant information from online, digital
media sources.
The project will also explore new business models for content based on fully cross-media
formats and consumption. The technology will encourage consumerism during performances
and exhibitions, both within the venue, and with opportunities to engage in external consumer
activity (e.g buy t-shirts or books related to the primary media source). In addition, the user, as
consumer, will develop a profile of their specific interests, interactions and purchases;
resulting in the delivery of products and services tailored to them.
The project will examine the relationship and interaction the user has with secondary sources
and the way this is deployed, e.g video, audio, text messaging, the web, film, and so on.
The first stage is to undertake a feasibility study into the use of social networking and
interactive technologies in 'controlled' public space. Whilst the proposed model is likely to be
highly transferrable, this feasibility study will limit the concept to film, which is why we’re
partnering with a cinema in Wales.
As part of the feasibility study, industry stakeholders will be surveyed and approached to
obtain an estimate of the market demand, likely uptake of the proposed technologies, and the
associated products and revenues that can be enhanced by it.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
