This type of surgery is becoming favoured for its reduced cost and patient recovery times and has the potential to positively impact up to 40,000 patients a year in the UK alone, many of whom are being identified by increasingly successful early cancer screening programs and are therefore ideal candidates for this form of treatment. However adoption of this new technique has been hindered until now by the build-up of surgical smoke during the procedure which makes it harder for the surgeon to see what they are doing, leading to extended procedure times (and cost) and increased risk to the patient.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
