Achieving net-zero demands substantial increases in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, to decarbonise the power grid and support the electrification of sectors such as heat and transport. Time is running out to deliver 320GW of additional offshore wind globally by 2030, which is needed to decarbonise. In line with environmental targets, the UK's government aims to quadruple offshore wind within 5 years.

Kinewell develops software solutions that leverage AI and advanced mathematics to accelerate offshore wind development, reducing costs and maximising energy yield. Recognised as industry Gamechangers by RenewableUK's 2023 Global Offshore Wind Awards and winners of the 2023 VentureFest and 2023 and 2024 Dynamites awards, Kinewell are committed to innovation and regional economic growth. Based in the North East of England, our dedicated team of 12 experts create state-of-the-art infrastructure optimisation solutions, driving the transition to a net-zero society worldwide. The March 2025 North East Local Growth Plan identifies strengths and opportunities for the region, including offshore wind and digital, where Kinewell supports both of these sectors.

The offshore wind industry needs digital tools that accelerate project planning and finds lower cost designs. These tools need to support dynamic challenges and technological developments within this rapidly progressing industry. Kinewell's solutions use advanced mathematics to optimise wind farms in the planning phase.

This project will focus on three challenges identified through stakeholder discussions.

1. Modelling neighbouring wind farm impacts to maximise energy yield. This is increasingly important as more farms are built.
2. Additional functionality and considerations when selecting transmission technologies.
3. More comprehensive whole wind farm design to support the fast rollout of renewables.

The project will develop new innovations, leveraging Kinewell Energy's software solutions:

* **Kinewell Layout Optimisation of Cable (KLOC)** designs economically optimised inter-array cable layouts. It typically saves our clients 20% of cable system capital costs over the project lifetime.
* **Kinewell's Designing Offshore Transmission Systems (KDOTS)** enables you to make more informed decisions in selecting offshore transmission technology, despite project uncertainties.
* **Kinewell Wake-Optimised Turbine Arrangement (KWOTA)** designs economically optimised wind turbine layouts, maximizing energy production while minimising costs.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
