From Advanced Architecture to a market ready design demonstrator</ns2:title><ns2:status>Active</ns2:status><ns2:grantCategory>Legacy Department of Trade & Industry</ns2:grantCategory><ns2:leadFunder>Innovate UK</ns2:leadFunder><ns2:abstractText>This project advances and demonstrates our innovative Dual-Flux (TM) motor technology for automotive and motorcycle applications.

Combining Permanent Magnets (PM) and Electronically Excited Synchronous Machine (EESM) principles in a hybrid rotor design, it offers higher flexibility and efficiency across varied torque and speed demands.

Building on existing IP, we'll develop a motorcycle motor and drive demonstrator while creating a scalable design toolchain for swift customization to varying customer demands.

By streamlining integration with vehicle interfaces, the project aims to accelerate time-to-market and enable broad adoption. The resulting proof of concept highlights the commercial viability and versatile performance of dual-flux motors.

While the proprietary Dual Flux Technology (DFT) remains scalable to large automotive and off highway systems, Talos has concluded that initial validation is best achieved in the lower power segment (<35 kW) rather than the originally proposed ~230 kW automotive traction motor.

This change enables:

1) Fully in-house design, manufacture, assembly, and testing.
2) Faster iteration and reduced delivery risk.
3) Exploration of Ferrite-based Permanent Magnets (PMs) as a strategic alternative to rare earth materials.
4) Stronger alignment with near-term commercialisation and export opportunities.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
