They are required in satellite free navagation, timing signals for financial trading as well as scientific research amongst many other potential applications. However, existing optical clocks are large, complex &amp;amp; expensive and have not so far met the needs of these markets, one of the reasons is the lack of suitable laser sources for field deployment. In this project we will develop underpinning subsystems of optical clocks, frequency-stabilised laser systems, using GaN external cavity diode lasers.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
