We have developed this technology because anaesthetic gases, when released to the atmosphere after use, contribute significantly to global warming because of their high carbon footprints. Globally, anaesthetic gases contribute approximately the same carbon footprint as 5000 flights between London and New York. There is no need to dispose of used gases and manufacture brand new anaesthetics - that process itself produces high levels of carbon dioxide equivalents needlessly - the gases are minimally metabolised in the body, they are robust chemicals, and relatively easy to handle and process. These factors make them ideal targets for capturing and reusing.

As this technology is adopted by healthcare facilities around the world, the scale of the technological and operational systems must evolve to maintain optimal levels of sustainability. If successful, this grant will enable SageTech to work with industry experts to bring transformational developments to the core innovative technology that SageTech has built. This will make it possible for SageTech to build a truly ground-breaking business with global reach, here in the UK. SageTech have enquiries from healthcare markets around the world and we are highly motivated to take the business to the next level.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
