This concentrates the hydraulic energy in the upstream water into a manageable secondary flow from which a conventional small axial flow turbine can produce electricity efficiently. The concept has recently been proven with a prototype which was witnessed and approved by Lloyds Register. SMEC is potentially fish friendly and the fish trials will enable the technology to be recognised as an environmentaly friendly option as well as making a substancial impact on its competitiveness.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
