A model cell
separation device of a novel type was developed in an earlier TSB-funded project led by
HARMAN technology Ltd. In the present project, Cellect Biotech Ltd aim to develop the
design of the device to the point of producing a demonstrator version using &amp;quot;soft tooling&amp;quot;, and
to have this tested thoroughly by UK research establishments. Competitive systems are
expensive and require users to have dedicated laboratories and specialist staff. In contrast, the
Cellect system will not require capital investment on the part of users, it uses no electronics,
and the model can give excellent results in the hands of inexperienced users. The project
should result in a manufacturable design, practical for use, and of proven capabilities, so that
Cellect Biotech Ltd will be able to attract the funding needed to move into commercial
exploitation of the device. The main overall benefit of this work (which will begin to be
realised once the device is available on the market, in the post-project period) will be that
researchers will be able to achieve their ends using much simpler and less expensive
equipment, which will facilitate improvements in bio-medical research and eventually in
medical diagnostics and therapies.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
