Many new mothers feel abandoned after giving birth, with little follow-up or support. This isn't just poor care, it can have lasting consequences for women's health and for their families. Studies show that up to 40% of women do not receive the six-to-eight week check-up with their GP. Even when they do, many say their own health concerns are overlooked.

This missed care matters. Problems like pelvic floor dysfunction, poor postnatal mental health, and heart-related conditions are often left untreated. These can lead to lifelong issues. In fact, mental health problems after birth affect up to two thirds of women in the UK and cost the country over £8 billion a year. The impact is not just on mothers but on their children too.

Umbi's Postnatal 360 (PN360) is a new digital tool that aims to change this. Instead of relying only on GP visits, this tool gives women a structured online health check. It screens for common but serious postnatal problems, like pelvic health issues, mental wellbeing, birth recovery, and longer term health risks, whilst connecting women to the right care faster.

This tool is still in development. This study will test whether it could work in the NHS. The study looks at two key questions:

* Technical - Is the data from our PN360 tool and in Primary care health records suitable to develop algorithms from? Or do we need to source better data sources, before investing in our artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities?
* Commercial - Is it cost-efficient enough for the NHS to procure? Does it reduce pressure on GPs, increase capacity in existing NHS provision and cut short- and long-term costs?

If it passes these tests, we'll work with NHS partners to further test and implement it in real-world-settings. If it's not ready yet, we'll continue refinement.

The project has five stages:

1. Preparing for safety and data rules
2. Collecting data and then assessing the feasibility of that for AI
3. Mapping out new clinical pathways with the PN360 in place
4. Assessing if the tool saves the NHS money, is more cost-efficient than the status quo, whilst improving health outcomes
5. Managing the project and deciding on next steps

If successful, this project could help the NHS move to a more proactive, digital-first model of postnatal care, supporting mothers earlier, reducing strain on services, and creating a healthier start for families.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
