& agency workers to fill human capital demands not met by full time(FT)NHS staff.
Fuelled by staffing pressures from EU Working Time Directive (clinical staff limited to 48hr
week) rising demand from an ageing population, increased levels of
privatisation/subcontracting
& large increases in compulsory/voluntary FT redundancies, temp/agency worker
spend represents approx. 20% of budget for individual NHS trusts.Temp/agency workers are
an essential component of the NHS workforce, providing flexibility & meeting variations in
NHS activity levels & covering vacancies/absences. NHS procurement development report
gives a target of 25% cost reduction by 2016 for NHS TAW procurement; this would allow
£600M+ in TAW efficiency savings to be re-distributed to key front line services.
SwiftShift(SwS) is a SaaS platform aimed at assisting healthcare & other industry employer
in achieving cost/time efficiency in TAW procurement.
A PoC TAW SaaS platform as result of feedback received from healthcare managers (BUPA,
NHS, Alpha).SwS utilises advancements in mobile tech & ‘Big Data’ to provide realtime, user
friendly TAW availability info via a centralised dashboard, addressing current mkt
info inefficiencies.PoC trials undertaken at Alpha hospitals have demonstrated the potential
benefits of SwS to ensure best-in class data protection.
The project seeks to advance the SwS platform from bench top to pre-production
prototype. The initial target mkt is healthcare, however transferability into other sectors is
envisaged. The development of SwS represents a major business opportunity in light of
NHS/Gov budget efficiencies ?creasing rise in use of TAWs(spending rose from £303M
(1997) to £2.4bn (2013)).Mkt entry is expected in 2016</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
