We want to Recondition the current mindset that accessible fashion can't also be stylish. Even though the disabled community makes up 9.8 million adults in the UK they are the minority which continues to be the most overlooked in the fashion industry. Our target consumer makes up 19% of that 9.8M (House of Commons Library, 2023). Where we have been making strides for race and body type inclusivity, the representation of the disabled consumer has remained at a stand still. Recondition wants to change that.

The main objective of recondition as a brand is not just to create clothes which physically cater to the consumers needs but also aesthetically aligns with the clothing they desire. The three big differences between Recondition clothes and the average high-street garment is fastenings, fabric and fit. All traditional fastenings have been swapped out for more accessible options and the fit of all the pieces has been carefully considered for comfort. With these adaptions, Recondition will allow consumers with disabilities to finally wear classic items which they would otherwise be unable to wear. Lastly the fabric has been chosen with sensitivity and sustainability in mind.

The project Recondition would like to run with Innovate UK is the development of a more accessible jean design. Through speaking to the disabled community this is a product which not only proves to be widely inaccessible but also greatly desired. With the support of Innovate UK Recondition will develop an accessible pair of jeans.

When purchasing a Recondition garment there will be an option for some basic adaptions to the core products providing a level of bespoke design with each sale. This way Recondition products can be easily tailored to a consumers specific needs with a made to order service. This will also reduce the holding and wastage of stock.

Recondition is more than just a brand, but a community as the brand was built on real peoples life experiences and opinions, Recondition will continue to design in a genuinely user-centred process. The foundations, values and core products of the brand have all been built around the amazing, inspiring people in the disabled community and transparent communication with the consumer is very important to the business model. Recondition intends to work collaboratively with the consumer to ensure we produce products that they both want and need.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
