instant messaging protocols, server and mobile components that are all programmed by a common and easy to master (&amp;amp; widely used) scripting language, to enable real-time smartphone applications to be built, deployed, managed and refined quickly.
Applications for this software platform are useful to a broad range of customers from the
enterprise (a smartphone application vacuum) to GCSE computer science, an area of relative concern for UK PLC's future competitiveness. Althoug this project focuses on one 'unbounded' industry problem; smartphone testing.
Smartphone development is an expensive process with an overwhelming part of the
development budget spent on software testing. Yet even with over a billion dollars of the
mobile industry's resources spent on testing, smartphone quality diminished, and support costs rose during 2011. In practice, current device test methodologies are failing the industry.
User experience (UX) or user testing is a relatively new methodology that could solve this 'scaling' problem and offer useful insight to other parts of the business, before smartphones are launched. Although critics claim that this user-centric, open ended methodology lacks the scientific rigour to be taken seriously.
This project aims to prove that UX testing is a rigourous methodology that can solve the
smartphone industries test problem - saving money, reducing development cycles and
improving product quality, and that it can provide insight that helps shape decisions and
activity for a broad range of stakeholders.
This UX analytics project will focus on four areas:
(1) The underpinning technology platform's development (MRiX)
(2) The UX test application prototype (SmartMetrics)
(3) Operator and manufacturer beta trials
(4) Identifying future applications &amp;amp; uses for the technology platform</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
