child’s natural curiosity to teach programming at an early age. Aimed at early learning
environments, with no dependency on written language, it teaches algorithms through
discovery and physical play, by chaining together pieces on an interface board. Each piece
symbolises an instruction: turn left, right, move forward, repeat, causing Cubetto, a little
robot, to perform ever more complex sequences of actions. This forms the basis of a complex
ecosystem, built with open technologies, that fosters the creative “hacker” culture in future
generations, offering significant economic, societal and technological benefits. Open sourced
using the Creative Commons license[2], the Primo Playset allows schools and children to
fully exploit and share their modifications and derivative works.
