Beryl e-Bike share in Cornwall has enabled over 22,000 people to undertake 130,000+ cycle trips in 12 months. One in three trips replaces a private vehicular trip (car/van/taxi). Based on the Lifecycle Assessment of our e-Bikes, each km switched from car to e-Bike saves 112g CO2, meaning a total removal of 15 tonnes of CO2 so far.

Working with Cornwall Council, this project will increase this carbon saving by enabling more trips to take place by e-Bike share. We will achieve this by improving the availability of e-Bikes by providing an e-Mobility Hub at each train station (6) in our network. The hub will have the added impact of reducing emissions associated with operations vehicle movements.

Train stations are typically the most popular docking stations in each of the five towns. We propose to upgrade each of the 6 docking stations from painted parking bays to solar-powered e-Mobility Hubs. These will be based on 'Healthy Streets' principles and include; e-Charging for 10 e-Bikes, solar charging pad, seating, planting and wayfinding.

By removing the need for a connection to the grid and generating electricity via a solar pad we can reduce costs and improve adaptability and scalability. The high operational costs associated with battery swapping are a major barrier to deploying e-Bike share (and e-Scooter share) in more rural locations. This project can demonstrate a replicable model for other rural areas to follow and introduce shared e-mobility.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
