At the heart of this breakthrough is Orion's proprietary transparent conductive metamaterial-mesh. Building on earlier feasibility studies, this project will accelerate prototypes from TRL-3 to TRL-4, aiming for commercial rollout with a major automotive partner within two years.

Today's autonomous vehicles juggle four separate components: headlights, RADAR, LIDAR, and heating elements---each adding cost, bulk, and design complexity. Integration has long been impossible, as traditional RADAR and heating layers block the optical paths needed for LIDAR and headlights.

Our solution changes that. Using Orion's ultrathin, patterned metallic mesh, we unlock transparent RADAR sensing and heating---without blocking light. The result: one seamless system, delivering the full sensing and safety stack in a single, integrated layer---an industry first, and a key enabler for the UK's net-zero and transport goals.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
