This project is rooted in the Great South West---a region renowned for its marine excellence---and brings together regional collaborators including Smart Sound Plymouth, the National Drone Hub in Cornwall, and Portsmouth International Port.

Our solution reimagines coastal and port surveillance through a fleet of lightweight, autonomous drones equipped with high-definition, infrared, and environmental sensors. These drones operate seamlessly over private 5G networks, transmitting real-time data to a central AI command platform that interprets patterns, identifies anomalies, and supports rapid, intelligent decision-making. The technology is engineered for affordability, ease of adoption, and long-term investment potential---qualities that are essential for real-world deployment in ports, coastguard operations, and marine conservation zones.

From detecting illegal fishing and pollution to supporting search and rescue or border patrol, this system provides a flexible, low-carbon alternative to traditional diesel-powered patrols. Our trial will take place in live port environments, with operational feedback from frontline users shaping refinements to both hardware and software. The result will be a deployable solution that transforms how maritime authorities respond to threats---faster, smarter, and with far less environmental impact.

But this project is more than a technical demonstration; it is a catalyst for growing the marine autonomy and digital ocean cluster across the South West. CrownComm will anchor its manufacturing, support, and R&D in the region, creating skilled jobs and opening up opportunities for UK SMEs to collaborate and contribute to a thriving innovation ecosystem.

Above all, our work is grounded in purpose---strengthening maritime resilience, advancing clean technologies, and delivering solutions that matter to people, communities, and the planet.

By fusing breakthrough AI, secure 5G networks, and intelligent aerial systems, CrownComm is charting a new course for the future of maritime safety---one that is dynamic, responsive, and built for the waters we must protect.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
