This project will use funding to develop valuable seaweed-based skincare products and create a detailed plan for a "smart" seaweed farm that uses the latest marine technology.

The seaweed that naturally grows off the South West coast contains powerful natural compounds that are in high demand for skincare and wellness products. As part of this project, we will create a prototype seaweed-based cosmetic product and work with skincare companies to make sure it meets their needs.

At the same time, we will design a smart seaweed farm that can be built in Devon. This farm will do two things:

1. Grow seaweed locally and sustainably to supply skincare products.
2. Work with research organisations like Cefas and the University of Exeter to test new marine technologies using sensors and digital tools.

These sensors will collect real-time data on ocean conditions, such as water temperature, quality, and nutrient levels. This information will help improve how seaweed is farmed and contribute to wider efforts to protect and understand our seas. The smart system will link to cloud-based platforms so scientists, regulators, and businesses can easily access and share information.

Seaweed farming is also good for the environment. It doesn't need any feed or fertilisers and helps clean the water by removing excess nutrients. Seaweed farms also provide shelter for sea life and boost biodiversity, all while having a very low impact on the ocean.

By the end of this project, we will have a ready-to-invest plan for building a pilot seaweed farm in Devon. This farm will be both a source of high-value seaweed and a platform for marine research and innovation.

In short, this project aims to turn seaweed into a valuable local product and help Devon lead the way in using smart ocean technology. It's a chance to grow a greener economy, support local jobs, and create cleaner, healthier seas.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
