SmartStep monitors the operating parameters of the entire escalator, including stress levels, detecting for most common abnormalities such as instances of drive chain imbalance, excessive dynamic loads, misalignment, stick-slip motion etc.

It aims to be a game changing product that can accurately diagnose escalator faults prior to them occurring, as well as carrying out inspection procedures and offering tools for monitoring safety critical parameters during structural works in the vicinity of the escalator. The system will exploit the wealth of data collected through machine learning, continuously improving over time.

Through accurately diagnosing faults prior to failures, rather than simply indicating a deviation in operation has been detected, maintenance costs can be reduced significantly. The system will also increase escalator reliability, efficiency and safety.

Transmission Dynamics have experience delivering other similar products, such as the PANDAS pantograph impact detection system, and will utilise this experience to deliver the key objectives for this project.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
