Prior to the opportunity presented by this project, the commercial exploitation of antibodies was limited to injected therapeutics. We are able to deliver this innovation by accessing domain antibody and yeast fermentation technologies that can deliver active biochemical molecules at a cost point compatible with oral dosing, and with the required resistance to degradation in the gastrointesinal system. This project therefore leverages the dramatic impacts that antibodies have had in the pharmaceutical sector to deliver innovation into the food industry.
VHsquared Ltd is funded by the Wellcome Trust, Unilever Ventures and private investors. Unilever have extensive experience in the use of domain antibodies in infectious disease, and have already conducted human studies using these molecules. Unilever have transfered all the associated assets, IP and know-how to VHsquared who will develop and manufacture hybrid molecules in yeast to produce additives that can be used in food products to protect against Rotavirus and other gastrointestinal infectious diseases.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
