The behavioural approach to robot design has seen considerable technical and commercial success since coming to prominence in the mid 1990’s, and the underlying principle of composing multiple simple behaviours in a distributed manner would appear to be a good basis for adding a similar level of intelligence to wireless sensor/actuator networks.
We see this investigation as a counterpoint to existing ‘Internet of Things’ projects which adopt a data-centric approach to managing large scale distributed networks of nodes. In contrast, the behaviour-based approach would focus on deriving emergent intelligence from small groups of tightly interconnected nodes which share a common local environment.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
