several disruptions in industry practice and requirements. Most movie material is now being
acquired digitally, using very high quality digital cinematography cameras. The data acquired
is a series of red, green, and blue samples known as Mosaic data, or Bayer data. This data is
not directly viewable, and has to be computer processed to make images that can be viewed
on computer monitors. This interpolation process is currently immature, and can be very time
consuming. Normally it is not done until the production is completed, and the images are in
postproduction, and Directors of Photography have to rely on low quality video feeds to
review their work.
We plan to develop a system to work with all digital cinematography cameras that will allow
near instant viewing of shot material, so that decisions can be made ‘on set’ as to the
suitability of the shot material for its purpose.
Advantages are that decisions can be made before sets are dismantled, and actors finish their
scene. Most cameras are hired by production crews for the period of a given shoot: a system
that is compatible across the range of cameras will be an attractive product for the
professional market of movie equipment rental companies.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
