limited resources, time and money, and more recently social and environmental barriers.
Structural integrity is a key aspect of life extension programmes and the ability to measure the
internal stress state of aged components will make a significant and profound difference to
assessing their potential for life extension. However for some plants, the extreme/aggressive
and restricted access environments that would be experienced by the equipment or personnel
when trying to carry out the measurements currently prohibits such important work, e.g. for
irradiated nuclear reactor components.
VEQTER is a world leading company providing internal stress measurement services to all
engineering sectors worldwide. VEQTER’s project will start to address this issue by creating
and then testing a proof of concept, remotely operated, robotic machine to measure the
through-thickness internal stresses within metallic components in hazardous or limited access
environments. No other capability like this currently exists and so this project will push the
boundaries of current leading-edge science.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
