Rootiful is a start up and has received no Innovate UK funding to date._

_Food supply chains have been shown to be fragile during events such as Covid, Brexit and Ukraine war, with many supermarket shelves becoming empty. The plant based sector is no different, with products such as textured vegetable proteins (TVP) being a prime example. Soy beans are grown in South America, shipped to China for the protein to be extracted and extruded into TVP and then brought back to Europe to be added into foods. There are many points of weakness in this supply and the environmental impact of the food miles is huge. The majority of plant based foods in UK and European supermarkets and restaurants contain these ingredients._

_At Rootiful, we believe there is a better way, we use our innovative manufacturing to turn locally grown protein sources and co-products would normally be sent to animal feed to upcycle back into higher value TVP for use in human nutrition. We wish to tackle key manufacturing issues within this project to create world class manufacturing within a robust supply chain._</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
