This project is a direct response to the challenging mental health landscape in Northern Ireland, which has a notably high prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to its history of conflict.

_What is VR Photoscan?_

VR Photoscan is a five-step process that enables clinicians to create personalised VR environments of traumatic incidents and situations to be used during the exposure-based elements of trauma therapy. Clinicians will use everyday technology, such as mobile phone cameras and desktop computers, to capture real-world images of scenes related to a client's traumatic experience. These images are then sculpted into a 3D environment, with additional elements like cars, people, sounds, etc., added from a pre-built 3D asset library to cater to individual client needs. VR Photoscan's design process is unique as it was crafted by clinicians themselves, to ensure this technology could be seemingly integrated into routine mental healthcare services.

_Clinical and Research Collaboration_

The project is aligned with Northern Ireland's 10-year Mental Health Strategy, aiming to incorporate digital tools into routine mental healthcare and represents a coloration across industry, academia and health service providers. The goal is to significantly impact the regional mental healthcare landscape, potentially enhancing therapy sessions, reducing treatment lengths, and alleviating waiting lists. Overall, VR Photoscan may represent a significant advancement in personalised mental health care, offering a novel, effective approach to treating PTSD and potentially other mental health conditions.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
