The outbreak escalated quickly and in early February the virus started to seriously impact and frustrate development of the programme which involved activities with major Seoul hospitals and healthcare providers and attendance at Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES). Given the impact on the programme and the risks associated with travel to the delegation a decision was taken by David Golding IUK to postpone the GBIP. At that time the virus had not started to spread to Europe and the full extent and impact of the epidemic was not appreciated. Following enquiries made by our Korean partners we became aware of another major healthcare event, Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES), taking place in Busan 23-25 October 2020. It was agreed with IUK the GBIP should be postponed to October 2020 to coincide with this event. At that time British Airways terms and conditions allowed for flight changes to October with a relatively small charge. Cancellation at that time would have meant losing the full ticket cost. Flights were secured to travel in October. With the ongoing restrictions to travel and health and safety risks a decision was taken by David Golding IUK in June to postpone the physical visit planned for October to March 2021, subject to the COVID situation improving to allow travel. It was agreed the GBIP should be supplemented with a virtual programme of events to capitalise on time and resource already invested in preparing the delegation and to maintain momentum by developing and cementing existing relationships with stakeholders and partners. It was also agreed to extend some of the virtual programme to a wider audience to deliver greater impact
