An inhaler consists of a pressurised can containing the drug and a plastic case that contains the can. It is estimated that over 2.5 billion inhalers are produced each year and every batch of inhalers manufactured has samples tested before being released for sale. The tests measure the key physical characteristics of the first, middle and last shot in the can/inhaler, and the intermediate shots need to be removed from the can safely in a process known as shot wasting. There is a small but growing, high value market for machines that manage the waste shot process. Current waste shot machines are obsolescent, largely of USA origin. Novi Systems Ltd’s business strategy is to design, develop and produce a market leading, efficient, innovative waste shot machine. The first stage in the realisation of the strategy is to conduct a Proof of Concept Study to establish the key physical, mechanical, electrical and software characteristics of the new waste shot machine.
