What's more, countries like the UK with high smartphone ownership are also proven to have a more distant relationship to nature, which impacts the climate.

Change needs to happen. Part of that starts with getting young people excited about nature and showing them its theirs; if they care about nature, they'll care about the planet.

What's the easiest entry point to nature, no matter where you live or who you are? Birds.

The Get Birding game is an innovative, fun, enriching geo-location based AR mobile game that gets players interested, and out into, nature around them.

Think of birding as real life Pokemon. It naturally suits gameplay; spotting birds, collecting and list making.

Built on a free-to-play model for the target audience, the game provides an AR experience where players encounter, spot and collect virtual bird species while exploring real world local nature. These species are added to the players' personal collection.

Mobile data will create by appointment features and personalised geo-location seasonal, time of day and weather gameplay - migration in Spring, owls at night - opening players' eyes to nature, their right to access it and inspiring them to explore.

There'll be competition around identification, birdsong, habitat creation, food, so players learn about nature, conservation and the environment. Citizen science is incorporated as players report sightings with real world photos, building live global bird data.

Created by BAFTA nominated co-founder of multi-platform content & communications studio Peanut & Crumb, Jane Gerber, the game is part of P&C's Get Birding brand, which has the mission of making nature accessible to everyone, anywhere.

It follows the success of our multi award-winning Get Birding podcast, launched in 2021 and presented by ornithologist, author and RSPB's youngest ever board member Dr Mya-Rose Craig; BBC Springwatch presenter & Strictly winner Hamza Yassin; and YouTuber City Girl in Nature. The series has a global audience, topping the Apple Science & Nature charts, and has won a global Anthem Award for EDI and the British Podcast Awards' inaugural Climate category.

Future plans for the brand include an immersive 360VR product for schools; a children's animation; and a television documentary with with the Natural History Museum and National Trust already attached.

What drives Get Birding? We believe that access to nature should be a right, not a privilege.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
