This can develop into a serious condition called pre-eclampsia, which can harm both mother and baby and costs the NHS more than £10,000 for each case. Keeping blood pressure under control during pregnancy is very important to prevent problems like early (premature) birth and damage to the mother's organs.

Beyond immediate dangers, high blood pressure during pregnancy increases a mother's risk of future heart disease by 2-4 times. As women are choosing to have babies later in life and rises in obesity, high blood pressure in pregnancy is becoming an even more significant health challenge.

Many women with high blood pressure during pregnancy feel worried and alone. Doctors now often recommend checking blood pressure at home, but current apps mainly record numbers without giving women the personalised support or information they really need. Studies show that just measuring blood pressure doesn't help improve health unless individuals also get education and support.

Our project will create 'MEGI Companion', a helpful tool that does more than just track numbers. This smart, artificial intelligence powered assistant will work with MEGI's existing blood pressure monitoring app to help women manage their condition throughout pregnancy. Medical experts will make sure all information is correct and based on trusted guidelines.

MEGI Companion will:

* Provide easy-to-understand information tailored to each woman's needs and stage of pregnancy
* Offer support and advice to help with worry and stress
* Help women stay on track with monitoring and medication, leading to better detection and control of high blood pressure

During our study, our scientific, medical and technology experts will work with women from different backgrounds who have experienced high blood pressure in pregnancy. Together, we'll design a first version of MEGI companion and test how well it works. We're working with a charity called Action on Pre-eclampsia UK and with UK hospitals and clinics to make sure our solution fits into existing care.

MEGI Companion could change how we care for women with high blood pressure in pregnancy by helping them stay healthy, feel supported, and save the NHS money by preventing serious complications. We want to create a solution that helps women feel informed, supported and empowered throughout their pregnancy.

If successful, our project also positions the UK as a leader in women's health innovation using artificial intelligence, creating solutions that can benefit pregnant women worldwide.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
