In the UK's health and social care (H&SC) systems, 77% of staff report that poor real-time information sharing and cross-organisation resource management are increasing risk-averse decision-making, while administrative inefficiencies result in up to 70% of frontline workers' time being spent on administration. This contributes to care delays and poorer outcomes, with 31% of A&E attendances and 20-45% of hospital discharge decisions considered non-ideal, 40k people a year being denied access to reablement/home-based rehabilitation and higher dependence on long-term care. These issues cost UK taxpayers £2.05B/year in increased long-term care costs. The sector is currently under significant pressure, and is being forced to navigate emergency measures, such as a £10B/year temporary workforce. An ageing population, rising health inequality and economic decline will widen the H&SC funding gap to £18.4B/year by 2032-2033 and force reductions in services to statutory minimums amid escalating demand and limited resources.

To address this issue, amelio is developing nexus, the UK's first cloud-hosted, integrated platform to facilitate real-time, patient-level operational data sharing across H&SC organisations. Unlike existing solutions, which update shared care records in arrears, nexus' live and comprehensive view of an individual's current needs can improve collaboration, decision-making and resource management across organisations, digitally enabling the Department of Health and Social Care's H&SC integration ambitions. nexus will improve patient experience and care outcomes by up to 52.5% and benefit approximately 39.4k patients per year by 2029\. By reducing decision-making errors, improving operational performance and cutting administrative workload, nexus will increase staff satisfaction, which is currently at an all-time low, and support delivery of a cost-benefit of over £200M/year within 5 years of launch.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
