In an era where traditional career paths are rapidly becoming obsolete, Gen Z's education and early career outcomes have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, and emerging technologies like AI are reshaping the labour market, the majority of 16-24 year olds feel more unprepared than ever for their future (LinkedIn Future of Jobs, 2023). The Futureproof Lab exists to equip young people with a durable skillset and mindset to thrive in a rapidly evolving world of work. The Lab achieves this through partnering with a diverse range of schools, universities and charities to offer an innovative blend of educational fellowships and access to targeted communities that empower young people to gain futureproof skills, boost their employment outcomes and create tangible value for their community and the economy at large. The Futureproof Lab combines a focus on digital skills related to emerging technologies such as Generative AI, with more timeless skills like critical and systems thinking. Our innovative pedagogy and holistic approach to skill development is underpinned by our belief that career readiness is not just about acquiring a set of skills; it's about fostering a sense of mindful agency, values literacy and purpose. This multi-faceted approach ensures that individuals are not just employable, but also highly adaptable and resilient in a complex and shifting world of work. The Futureproof Lab is designed to serve those who have been most negatively impacted by macroeconomic and socioeconomic factors, namely school and university students who are at risk of poor employment outcomes or job displacement, as well as those not in education, employment or training (NEETs). By focusing on these vulnerable groups, we aim to help alleviate the socioeconomic disparities that exist at a systemic level across the UK, and create more opportunities for social mobility for the most vulnerable pockets of young people across the country.
