Despite high enrolment numbers, online courses continue to show low student retention rates. CogBooks has been in the business of offering personalised e-learning solutions for more than a decade and has access to large volumes of learner usage data. This data can be interpreted using machine learning techniques to derive definite patterns of learning behaviour. Machine learning incorporates numerous technologies to create systems that can learn from the data in their environment and then make predictions and take actions when confronted with a new situation. These insights along with further understanding of user behaviour will help CogBooks come up with effective intervention strategies which will improve student retention rates and their performance.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
