The project aims to demonstrate how sustainable fibres such as fruit fibre, hemp, and flax can be engineered into lightweight, high-performance composites that reduce carbon emissions and material waste.

Through this short feasibility study, Woven Bio will explore new bio-based resin systems, fibre processing methods, and manufacturing techniques that allow natural composites to match or exceed the performance of traditional glass-fibre materials. The project will also assess opportunities for recyclability, repair, and reuse; supporting the transition to a circular materials economy in the UK.

By replacing imported and energy-intensive materials with renewable, UK-sourced feedstocks, PinaFlex will help make the automotive and marine sectors more resource-efficient, resilient, and sustainable, contributing to the UK's Net Zero and clean-growth ambitions.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
