sporting events, initiated by the BBC and developed to proof of concept. RTVRA is offered
to be developed into formats to meet demands of commercial clients that include media
companies and clubs where analysis of play and statistics form parts of training and tactical
match review.
RTVRA combines systems that mesh 2D camera array content to create 3D figures playing on
a near-real-time virtual pitch. With series of play in 3D format, editors or coaches are able to
position cameras to show alternative views of play used to assess performance, or viewed
through eyes of players or others.
2D formats are old technology that lack freedom of movement and supportive benefits for
commentary and analysis.
This project aims to deliver an RTVRA prototype system that demonstrates benefits of
superior technology to potential users in media and commercial worlds, with real time
playback. Ability to create in real time and simultaneously manipulate in 3D format is a key,
critical objective of the proposal.
Both NFL and University Football (US) attract huge audiences, this year’s Super Bowl was
watched by over 110m viewers in US alone.
Broadcasters NBC, CBS, ESPN and NFL provide coverage of professional and collegiate
American Football. They show interest in real time RTVRA. beIN Sport of France, owned by
Al Jazeera, shows great interest in early approval and take-up.
Launch for RTVRA training virtual analysis services would be positioned to achieve rapid
uptake and market recognition. We seek brand recognition.
Based on challenges of college football and viewer volumes, it is contended that versions of
RTVRA would carry content to TV, Smartphone, iPods and mobile media for commercialsocial-
leisure applications that share technical-participation characteristics. College leagues
would be the large-volume test and infrastructural input to extend the system to all mass sports markets.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
