Place success is predicated on understanding relative strengths and weaknesses on a comparative basis across a range of key economic, social capital, cultural and community factors.

There has never been a greater need for use of a data driven approach in place development and marketing. Place is a hot topic and is attracting significant private and public sector monies. This product will support place managers in their strategic planning, prioritise actions and measure return on investment and to enable place competitiveness.

The Vista product will support decision makers in central Government departments, Local Authorities, Destination Management Organisations, Economic Development organisations and property developers to help them develop informed strategies underpinned by data and benchmarking. It will help these organisations with constrained resources to better allocate budget. It supports the national levelling up agenda as well as local levelling up in regions across the UK. The benefits of the Vista tool for towns and cities are that it:

* Ranks towns and cities on a national basis for overall place attractiveness and by individual functional area (as locations in which to Invest, Live, Work, Study and Visit)
* Provides comparable scores against peer locations
* Helps identify areas and activities for place development
* Supports messaging for place marketing campaigns
* Enables better competitive analysis and identification of best practice
* It provides an assessment of their resilience and growth potential
* Is an independent, comparable and verifiable analysis

The project will help to evolve and stress test the existing methodology which has been piloted, and support product development and commercialisation.
