The project addresses pressing environmental and operational challenges faced by growers, such as the short lifespan of current Fytotec dispensers and their reliance on non-biodegradable materials.

Traditional dispensers typically last 4--5 weeks, requiring frequent replacements that increase labour costs and generate significant agricultural waste. Fytotec's novel biodegradable dispenser will extend the lifespan to 10--12 weeks, offering a sustainable alternative that reduces costs, improves pest monitoring accuracy, and aligns with global sustainability goals. The project integrates advanced biodegradable polymers with controlled-release technology to ensure consistent pheromone dispersion while naturally degrading after use, minimising environmental impact.

ASTUTE brings expertise in polymer science and cutting-edge testing facilities to optimise the dispenser's performance under real-world agricultural conditions. The project outcomes include a validated dispenser, technical insights, and a scalable production model. These innovations support the UK's net-zero strategy and Sustainable Farming Incentive by promoting reduced pesticide use, enhanced biodiversity, and waste minimisation, aligning with the development of eco-friendly pest control methods.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
